Spain Summons Israeli Envoy Over ‘Unacceptable Words’
MADRID (Dispatches) -- Spain’s Foreign Ministry summoned Israel’s chargé d’affaires on Tuesday after Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar accused the country’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez of being an “antisemite.”
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said the Israeli envoy, Dana Erlich, was called in to protest “unacceptable words and positions” from his Israeli counterpart, sources told public broadcaster RTVE. It was the second time in less than a week that the Israeli envoy was summoned over remarks targeting the Spanish government.
